There are so many stories to tell about the Raja Burger. The signature burger patty has the same texture as a good old murtabak filing, which shows that it predates Ramly burger. Raja burger also tells the story of one man's creativity. The founder sold a brand new street food! He turned the murtabak into a burger: a winning formula that suits a fussy foreigner's palate and a gastronomy gateway to other ethnic food such as nasi kandar, nyonya kuih, and tok tok mee.

Nestled today Union Street in the heart of George Town Unesco World Heritage Site, Raja Burger is now run by Azlan Shah and Mohd Ibrahim. The ultimate "Super Burger" mix of everything in a Chicken/Beef patty is a must-try item.

There is another Burger that you should not miss.

Penang is also home to a brand new burger known as UFO Burger, created by Siti Aishah and her family. Six years ago, Aishah and her brother started a food cart business. Initially, they wanted to sell just the run-off-the-mill Ramly Burger.


However, Aishah found that the buns were too airy, and the meat juice often dries up when pan-frying it. Aishah came out with the idea of compressing it to a tight-fit metal plate and then bbq it on the charcoal pit.

The result turns out to be superb. The air in the bun is all squeezed out, making the burger compact and easier to bite. And by barbequing the burger, the juice of the patty is locked into the bun.
